Defense Secretary Robert Gates says we're not scrapping the system but replacing it with something that will better protect Europe and us from the threats determined by our best intelligence. But what does Sec. Gates know? He's only been Secretary of Defense under two Presidents.

CHIEF'S REPLY: Let's see now...this is the same intelligence sources that the Democratic Congress has been shredding with regularity for providing information in keeping with the desired policies. Which way does THAT knife cut?

Replacing it with something better? Right...and the check's in the mail...really. It is!

Also, being SECDEF under two presidents giving the mark of good policies? The Chief seems to recall a predecessor of Mr. Gates...hmmmmm. Oh, yeah, his name was McNamara! Appointed by non other than the King of Camelot himself, JFK, and continued under President LBJ (much beloved by the Donkey Party for the so-called Great Society mass expansion of government). Of course, poor ole' LBJ decided he couldn't run for re-election...a slight problem resulting from McNamara's Band playing out of tune by gradually (and ineffectually) trying to fight a war in Vietnam without actually admitting it back home (until it was too late to turn things around with an appropriate use of military force).

Not exactly the best precedent. I remain skeptical about Mr. Gates...after all, he WAS appointed by Bush, and then re-appointed by B.O. (And yes, that IS a disparaging remark about Dubya!)
