TERRORISM: ‘AL-QAEDA’S MR. NUCLEAR TO HEAD FRESH ATTACK ON U.S.’

Osama bin Laden is planning to carry out new, more destructive attacks inside the United States, and there is someone working on this terror plot currently in the US, according to Hamid Mir, the famed Pakistani journalist who obtained the only post-9/11 interviews with Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri. In an interview quoted on the website of the al-Arabiya television network, Mir spoke about his last trip to Afghanistan and his meeting with al-Qaeda members and Taliban leaders.

In his interview with Al.Arabiya.net, Mir said that the al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters referred to attacks targeting the US-led coalition forces during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan which begins on 24 September, and that the al-Qaeda leader, Osama bin Laden was in “good” health during a meeting he had recently with the Taliban leader, Mullah Mohammed Omar.

Mir also said that bin Laden has assigned a man named Adnan Al-Shukri Juma to carry out a new attack within the US which is intended to be larger than the 11 September, 2001 attacks. According to Mir, Adnan Jumaa has smuggled explosives and nuclear materials into the US through the Mexican border over the last two years and is hiding somewhere in America where the FBI has not been able to locate him.

After spending the last two nights watching the ABC mini-series about the background leading up to 9-11, these reports have all the earmarks of that same old deja-vu all over again, except that this time it won’t be possible to blame Pres. Bubba and his clique.

We should have this Adnan Al-Shukri Juma SHOULD be on America’s Most Wanted, and on the FBI list. Methinks this is a bit more of a problem than that crackpot polygamist that there was such a to-do about.

Former Iranian President Khatemi is making the rounds of the establishment in the US these days, with speeches at the Episcopal National Cathedral, as well as Harvard, althoug there is some controversy about both appearances.

Episcopal bishops hit ‘inappropriate’ speech

Some leading Episcopal bishops have sharply criticized the decision to invite former Iranian President Mohammed Khatami to speak at the Washington National Cathedral, the seat of the presiding bishop of the church’s American branch.

Good enough. The interesting point made at the tail of this piece is this:

…Rev. John Peterson, director of the Cathedral’s Center for Global Justice and Reconciliation, which invited Mr. Khatami….has defended the invitation. He told the Episcopal News Service that, “although former President Khatami is viewed negatively by some, he is important as the most moderate Iranian voice willing to discourse with Americans on matters of peace among the Abrahamic faiths.”

OK – so he’s the “most moderate Iranian voice”? One wonders what that means…from the following item, moderation in Iran is considerably different from what a typical American might consider it to be.

Sounds to the Chief like Khatemi’s “moderation” is pretty much the same on this one as Ahm-mad-on-a-jihad Ahmadinejad, who no one suspects of committing the sin of moderation.

…and rejected suggestions that freedom and human rights in Iran had deteriorated under his hard-line successor Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

This is no doubt true, when one considers that freedom and human rights were realistically non-existant before anyway. Khatemi however goes on to contradict this, although he doesn’t consider the current tightening down to be a “deterioration”.

Mr. Khatami acknowledged that his two-week American tour had been criticized by religious hard-liners in Iran, but he said he did not think that Iran had regressed under Mr. Ahmadinejad. “I don’t think things have reversed,” he said. “Of course their interpretation may be different than mine, but on women and youth, the new president has said things that are very hopeful.”

What sorts of “hopeful” things?

Mr. Ahmadinejad has enforced dress codes requiring that women be dressed in black or dark blue Islamic garb from head to toe and has begun a campaign to purge liberal and secular professors from the nation’s universities. Mr. Khatami’s successor has also called for Israel’s destruction.

To quote the Brit rock band THE WHO:

The proposal would allow the use of any “investigational new drug application” or “investigational device” on people who have a life-threatening medical condition for which other treatments are unsatisfactory. It applies in situations where the patients are unconscious and cannot give consent and none of their representatives is available. “Such ’emergency research’ could be conducted without any informed consent from the patient or their designated representative,”

Earth-like planets could litter the galaxy

Britain ‘more distrusting of Muslims’

ABC alters 9/11 show under pressure

After a screening of the first episode in Washington last week, some audience members attacked the film’s depiction of the Clinton administration’s pursuit of Osama bin Laden. Among those unhappy was Richard Ben-Veniste, an attorney and member of the 9/11 commission whom some conservatives have dismissed as a Democratic attack dog. Richard A. Clarke, the former counterterrorism czar, has criticized the movie for suggesting that the Clinton administration was in a position to capture Bin Laden in 1998 but canceled the mission at the last minute.

After much discussion, ABC executives and the producers toned down, but did not eliminate entirely, a scene that involved Clinton’s national security advisor, Samuel R. “Sandy” Berger, declining to give the order to kill Bin Laden, according to a person involved with the film who declined to be identified because of the sensitivities involved.

Censorship? As far as the Chief is concerned, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it’s a duck, and sadly not the one from AFLAC.

Chevron taps vast oil pool in Gulf

A trio of oil companies led by Chevron Corp. has tapped a petroleum pool deep beneath the Gulf of Mexico that has the potential to boost the nation’s reserves by more than 50 percent. A test well indicates it could be the biggest domestic oil discovery since Alaska’s Prudhoe Bay more than a generation ago.

Admittedly this won’t solve the energy problem, but hey, it sure can’t hurt!

Missile Fired At McCain’s Helicopter

The Interior Ministry of the nation of Georgia said Sunday that a surface-to-air missile was fired at a helicopter last week, as it escorted an American delegation led by Senator McCain, a Republican of Arizona. The aircraft was not damaged. A spokeswoman for the Department of State, Joanne Moore, said she had no information about the incident.

The Chief has steadfastly turned away from the little demon on his left shoulder, so he will NOT say that maybe they will shoot better next time.

A not especially eventful press briefing at the White House today turned rancorous with NBC’s David Gregory telling Press Secretary Tony Snow, “Don’t point your finger at me,” and Snow accusing the newsman of being “rude” and delivering Democratic talking points.

Nothing like the Snow-man calling a spade a spade & the obvious truth about this MSM denizen flacking for the Donks must have hit a soft spot.

Israelis discovers rocket lab ‘financed by Hizbullah’

Shocking, simply shocking! The Hezbos linked up to the late, unlamented Palestinian Capo di tutti Capo Arafat’s Fatah organization.

Israel’s military has found an explosives laboratory operated by the Fatah movement and two rockets in the West Bank city of Tulkarm. The military reported the arrest of two Fatah operatives – identified as Tahar Amar and Hassan Ufi – and accused them of being responsible for the laboratory, Middle East Newsline reported. “The Fatah people were financed by Hizbullah,” a military source said. The sources said Hizbullah supplied funds and directions for rocket strikes against Israel.

So, how’s that again about not negotiating with terrorists? Oh, that MUST mean unless there are vested P.C. interest in the Paleswinians.

It’s Time to Deep-Six the UN

A few highlights:

The UN has outlived its usefulness, if indeed it ever had any. It has gone past the point of being an ineffectual joke, and entered a new stage where it actively and deliberately aids those people and regimes that most Americans consider evil….

The UN is good for nothing. The only things it can do are to skim money off its funding to line the nests of its apparatchiks, procure underage sex-slaves for its peacekeepers, and pass resolutions condemning Israel….

The real truth of the matter, the ugly truth that makes America hated and reviled the world over, is that the only force capable of keeping the peace in the world today is the armed might of the United States of America. No country can remain at war if America has the desire and will to stop it. And, without the help of the United States, the UN is a shrill but ineffectual bystander.

The President has taken an oath to preserve and protect the citizens of this country. He will violate it if he does not, with deliberate speed, begin the work of extricating us from the United Nations. Our treaty obligations cannot require us to commit national suicide.

Saying that the Chief concurs is a severe understatement! Check out the posting. The six listed specific and detailed fatal flaws of the UN alone are worth it – great sticks to flog your local internationalist moonbats.

Freedom Stage not so free

Sibby has laid out a very good treatment of the so-called debate of Governor candidates at the state fair at Huron. The debate was sponsored by, and ultimately controlled by the Mitchell Daily Republic, to the exclusion of Libertarian candidate Gerber. So much for free speech, eh?

The Chief concurs with Sibby’s jaundiced view of the Republic’s management of the debate, but would carry it even farther: the whole institutional culture of political pseudo-debates that has grown up. The whole situation with political campaigns negotiating ad nauseum over the terms of “acceptable conditions” that are required before they candidates can get on stage with each other has become a form of political minuet designed to minimize risk, and heaven forfend that a candidate should actually candidly be himself/herself!

The Chief would greatly prefer to cut to the chase, and have real debates, mano-a-mano, Lincoln-Douglas style, but apparently the politicos don’t have enough respect for the voters, or confidence in their own abilities and character to do that.

Such being the case, we’ll inevitably be subjected to more episodes of elaborately choreographed and exclusive bouts of political kabuki theater instead of a free-ranging open debate format that might actually let the voters really get to know what the candidates are all about.

No. 2 al Qaeda in Iraq caught

Authorities yesterday announced the capture of al Qaeda in Iraq’s No. 2 leader, accusing him of “brutal and merciless” terror operations, including the bombing of a Shi’ite shrine that touched off the sectarian bloodletting pushing Iraq toward civil war.

Not only is HE out of circulation, he’s giving more information – no doubt to try to save his own scaly(?) skin.

It’s not the end of the world

The Aussies have apparently located a major clue:

The world’s scientists are getting a clearer idea of just how the Earth’s climate is changing and just what that means for us humans living and working on it. Rejecting doomsday scenarios, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has projected a rise of 3C in average daily global temperature by the end of the century, assuming greenhouse gas emissions remain stable. According to a draft report obtained exclusively by The Weekend Australian, the world’s top climate scientists have narrowed the band of predicted temperature rises and all but eliminated the possibility of a 5.8C average temperature increase mooted when the group last met in 2001. In other words, according to the IPCC, the planet is heating up — but nowhere near as much as once thought or feared. The report is particularly valuable as a rebuke to that radical and disproportionately loud fringe of greenies and leftists who treat environmentalism as a religion for whom humanity’s sinful, decadent ways threaten to bring down the wrath of nature or the gods and must be changed. It is also further evidence that such alarmist scenarios such as the “hockey stick” theory (so named for the shape of the line on the graph it is taken from) are, well, overheated.

Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin killed by stingray

Another one to post with the bear enthusiast dude who got eaten by a Grizzly.

Television personality and environmentalist Steve Irwin has died in a marine accident in north Queensland. The 44-year-old is believed to have been killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest, the sources said. He was filming an underwater documentary off Port Douglas when the accident occured.

Just a hint: there IS a reason they are called STINGrays!

Mr Irwin – known worldwide as the Crocodile Hunter – is famous for his enthusiasm for wildlife and his catchcry “Crikey!”.

Crikey indeed.

Friends of Hillary hint she may pull out of presidential race

By all accounts the Donk nomination is hers if she wants it…but…

…some of her closest advisers say she might opt out of the White House race and seek to lead her party in the Senate.

A recent poll for Time magazine showed that…53% of independent voters said they would not vote for her. “The prospect of a Hillary for President campaign has put much of the Democratic establishment in a bind,” Time concluded. “The early line is that Hillary would be unstoppable in a Democratic primary but unelectable in a general election.”

One can only hope so!

‘Hezbollah is arming Gaza for a new war on Israel’

Israel’s spy chief has given a warning that Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip are garnering increasing numbers of weapons and tactical expertise from Hezbollah fighters since the war in southern Lebanon erupted earlier this summer.

Yuval Diskin, the director of Shin Bet, Israel’s equivalent of MI5, said Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula was being used as a terrorist base and fast becoming a haven for arms smugglers preparing to shift their wares into the Gaza Strip. He added that within Gaza terrorists were building rocket hideouts, a bunker network and an anti-tank missile arsenal as they prepared for an escalated confrontation with Israel.

So what else would you expect? They’re Hezbos, doing what Hezbos do. In addition, it seems that there are other fish to fry at the same time:

Israel plans for war with Iran and Syria

Threatened by a potentially nuclear-armed Tehran, Israel is preparing for a possible war with both Iran and Syria, according to Israeli political and military sources.

The conflict with Hezbollah has led to a strategic rethink in Israel. A key conclusion is that too much attention has been paid to Palestinian militants in Gaza and the West Bank instead of the two biggest state sponsors of terrorism in the region, who pose a far greater danger to Israel’s existence, defence insiders say.

Hmmmmm. Not exactly what Olmert’s peace platform wanted, but hey, funny things happen if you get mugged by reality!

The Israeli defence establishment believes that Iran’s pursuit of a nuclear programme means war is likely to become unavoidable.

“In the past we prepared for a possible military strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities,” said one insider, “but Iran’s growing confidence after the war in Lebanon means we have to prepare for a full-scale war, in which Syria will be an important player.”

Too bad. If the IDF had gone ahead and totalled out the Hezbos when they had the chance, then “Iran’s growing confidence” wouldn’t be there, and the problem would be less than it is now.
