Rotten US Prosecution, Prosecutor in Border Case

Official: Mexican Drug Runner Shot by Border Agents Smuggled More Drugs Into U.S.

This is just WRONG!

The Mexican drug runner whose testimony sent two Border Patrol agents to prison for shooting him in the buttocks brought drugs into the United States more than once, thereby diminishing his credibility as a witness in the investigation, according to a California congressman.

That is bad enough, but unfortunately it gets even worse:

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., presented new evidence in a Capitol Hill press conference Wednesday that revealed what he says was U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton’s deliberate attempt to mislead the public about Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila’s involvement in the transport of a second load of drugs in October 2005.

Sounds like Sutton is another version of (NC Drake “Rape”) Prosecutor Nifong, with a concern for racking up convictions with no regard for either truth or justice. These guys need to do hard time themselves. What a travesty!

Comes the Comrade in Seattle School.

L’Eggo My Lego

This is bizarre – it sounds like something from the Soviet Union.

According to the article, the students had been building an elaborate “Legotown,” but it was accidentally demolished. The teachers decided its destruction was an opportunity to explore “the inequities of private ownership.” According to the teachers, “Our intention was to promote a contrasting set of values: collectivity, collaboration, resource-sharing, and full democratic participation.”

IT’s even worse in detail than that! This is nearly physically sickening! Of course, it IS Seattle, which has taken a niche of being a de-facto northern version of San Francisco.

Traitor at Kent State

Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard

This piece from Townhall describes what is described as openly traitorous writings by a Kent State Islamofascist professor. Having gone and personally examined his website of dubious ancestry, the Chief’s personal evaluation is that, yes, indeed, this qualifies as sedition and direct treason at the cost of Ohio’s taxe$ that pay this scumbag’s salary.

It’s really sort of breathtaking to see this sort of stuff…worth taking a look in the interest of knowing the enemy.

Rope. Professor. Tree. Some assembly required.

Queen Bitch of the House

Speaker’s Schemes

This first paragraph says it all!

Nancy Pelosi has decided the next best thing to leaving Iraq is for Democrats to micromanage our forces there. As her broken promises on reforming Congress proved, the speaker cannot be trusted.

So this is a shocker? Not to the Chief, considering the subject, and apparently not to the writer either:

Low chicanery has come to be expected from the new speaker. As Washington’s Politico Web site noted this week, Pelosi’s promises of congressional reform have become a joke less than eight weeks into the 110th Congress. Her much-touted “five-day workweek” has happened once so far, Republicans have only one time been allowed to vote on a measure of their own, and her “100 hours” agenda took two weeks to complete.

Moreover, what Pelosi pledged would be “the most ethical Congress in history” has Rep. William Jefferson, found last year with $90,000 in alleged bribes hidden in his freezer, sitting on the House Homeland Security Committee, courtesy of the speaker.

AF3.jpg

When Bush solemnly swore to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, little did he know that one of those domestic enemies would be armed with a gavel.

Unfortunately, she’s not just an enemy of the President…we’re all at risk here.

Blows Against the (Sioux) Empire

Feds reject railroad loan

The Federal Railroad Administration said Monday that it denied a $2.3 billion loan request by the Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad Co., which has tried for some 10 years to finance a third rail line into Wyoming’s prolific Powder River Basin coal mining district.

This is NOT good for the development of South Dakota’s economy and its infrastructure. Score points for the luddites amongst us. The Chief has to hope that the DM & E can figure out another way to leverage the project.

Daschle: DM&E made ‘strategic mistakes’

Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle said today he thinks the Dakota Minnesota & Eastern Railroad made strategic mistakes and could have worked better with communities in the region. “I think the DM&E may have made some strategic mistakes with regard to their planning and their approach,” Daschle said, “but they have indicated that perhaps there are other ways to come back with another business plan and I’m sure they’ll attempt to do that.”

It’s worth noting that Daschle was appointed to the Board of Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic who vociferously opposed the project as an undue trespass on their private fiefdom in Rochester. He also was involved with their hiring former SD Governator and Congresscritter Janklow into their fold.

Thi$, after both Daschle and Janklow unre$ervedly $upported the D M & E project when they were in office in $outh Dakota. Well, now they are not in $outh Dakota office, and $o much for any $ense of re$idual loyalty to the voter$ of $outh Dakota who elected them repeatedly over the year$. I $uppo$e that no one $hould reali$tically expect anything el$e from the$e paragon$ of public $ervice – they are member$ of the legalocratic mercenary cla$$ after all, and demon$trably have $hifted their loyalty to the $ervice of other$ who were willing to pay for the be$t lawyer$ (and connection$) that their money could buy.

Asked what mistakes he was referring to, Daschle said “not working as effectively with local communities as they probably should have.”

How could they have “worked more effectively with local communities”? Presumably by hiring Daschle and Janklow to work for them.

Islamofascists Target Cyberworld

Cyberspace as a Combat Zone: The Phenomenon of Electronic Jihad

Alongside military jihad, which has been gaining momentum and extracting an ever growing price from many countries around the globe, Islamists have been developing a new form of warfare, termed “electronic jihad,” which is waged on the Internet. This new form of jihad was launched in recent years and is still in its early stages of development. However, as this paper will show, Islamists are fully aware of its destructive potential, and persistently strive to realize this potential.

MEMRI does a great job of raking the muck generated by the Islamofascists, and has put together a piece on the efforts of the crescent moon-god worshipers to go after cyberspace. Fortunately, they haven’t quite hit prime time with these efforts, but the situation bears watching.

This is a pretty good intro level piece…check it out.

Iran War Ramping Up?

One way or another, this looks more and more like a “go”.

American armada prepares to take on Iran

Recent tensions between America and Iran over Teheran’s attempts to develop a nuclear weapon have raised the prospect of its third regional war in a decade.

The addition of a second aircraft carrier to its strike groups has fuelled the belief that America is gearing up for a fight with Iran. Not since the Iraq war in 2003 has America amassed so much fire power around the Gulf. As flagship of the Fifth Fleet, the Eisenhower welcomed the arrival of a second Nimitz class nuclear powered aircraft carrier, the USS John C. Stennis, and its accompanying destroyers on Tuesday.

That’s a LOT of warplanes ready to rock and roll! But wait…there’s still more:

Israel seeks all clear for Iran air strike

Israel is negotiating with the United States for permission to fly over Iraq as part of a plan to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities, The Daily Telegraph can reveal.

To conduct surgical air strikes against Iran’s nuclear programme, Israeli war planes would need to fly across Iraq. But to do so the Israeli military authorities in Tel Aviv need permission from the Pentagon.

Meanwhile, back in Tehran, the Ayatollah’s regime is trying to erase the bull’s eye they painted on themselves….a bit late.

Iran urges talks on nukes, not war

The Iranian foreign minister said yesterday the United States was in no position for another war…

He wishes! This has more of an effect by giving a convenient talking point to the LibDonk moonbats in Congress.

…and maintained that negotiations — not threats — were the only way to resolve the standoff over its nuclear activities.

Sure, they would rather talk than have their nuke program go up in smoke.

Attempts at Chemical Attacks in Iraq

Iraqi Militants Use Chlorine in 3 Bombings

A truck bomb that combined explosives with chlorine gas blew up in southern Baghdad on Wednesday, and officials said it may represent a new and deadly tactic by insurgents against Iraqi civilians.

Hello? “…officials said it MAY represent a new and deadly tactic…”? DUH! If it’s already being done, which it is, then it DOES represent a new and deadly tactic. Call a spade a spade, guys!

The attacks seem to have been poorly executed, burning the chemical agent rather than dispersing it, but more sophisticated weapons involving chlorine could injure hundreds and cause mass panic.

If they keep going, they WILL get the bugs out.,.then one has to wonder hou long before they bring it over here. How truly wonderful! Meanwhile, the Washington establishment continues to fiddle while the unprotected borders continue to burn.

We’ve got a problem here.

Gallup Probes Muslims

Anti-American feelings soar among Muslims, study finds

This is an interesting poll in a number of respects, especially to an American conservative point of view.

Firstly, there’s a LOT of dislike out there, and it seems to be getting worse for the most part.

Seven per cent believe that the events of 9/11 were “completely justified”. In Saudi Arabia, 79 per cent had an “unfavourable view” of the US.

7% of the Islamic world is about 100M people – nothing to sneeze at.

It is also well worth noting that the standard liberal reasoning about the origins of radicalism in the cesspools of economic malaise are erroneous:

Gallup’s Centre for Muslim Studies in New York carried out surveys of 10,000 Muslims in ten predominantly Muslim countries. One finding was that the wealthier and better-educated the Muslim was, the more likely he was to be radicalised.

There are some areas of possible leverage that can provide a basis for real understanding:

The Gallup findings indicate that, in terms of spiritual values and the emphasis on the family and the future, Americans have more in common with Muslims than they do with their Western counterparts in Europe. A large number of Muslims supported the Western ideal of democratic government. Fifty per cent of radicals supported democracy, compared with 35 per cent of moderates.

What really struck the Chief, is that the Islamic radicals were driven to their opposition to the US for the same sort of “culture war” issues that drive US conservatives crazy:

Religion was found to have little to do with radicalisation or antipathy towards Western culture. Muslims were condemnatory of promiscuity and a sense of moral decay. What they admired most was liberty, its democratic system, technology and freedom of speech.

If this is accurate, the Chief has more in common with some of these people than he thought he did. Go figure.

Just Say “NO!” to Presidents’ Day

WASHINGTON’S BIRTHDAY!

This was a moment of enlightenment to the Chief:

In some circles, today is observed as “Presidents’ Day,” jointly recognizing Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, but it is still officially recognized as the anniversary of “Washington’s Birthday”….Matthew Spaulding, a Heritage Foundation scholar, reminds: “Although it was celebrated as early as 1778, and by the early 19th Century was second only to the Fourth of July as a patriotic holiday, Congress did not officially recognize Washington’s Birthday as a national holiday until 1870. The Monday Holiday Law in 1968-applied to executive branch departments and agencies by Richard Nixon’s Executive Order 11582 in 1971-moved the holiday from February 22 to the third Monday in February. Section 6103 of Title 5, United States Code, currently designates that legal federal holiday as ‘Washington’s Birthday.’ Contrary to popular opinion, no action by Congress or order by any President has changed ‘Washington’s Birthday’ to ‘Presidents’ Day’.”

Hey, that’s enough for me! How much do I REALLY think of George Washington? Enough to name my son after him, that’s all.

The Truth IS Out There Somewhere, but Not Here, or There Either!

Flat Earth Society

This was brought to the Chief’s attention by an e-mail correspondent, and is presented solely for discussion purposes. The Chief is unprepared to say whether these folks actually are serious, or not.

As a physics teacher, there is no problem with refuting this…but hey, not everyone is troubled by the presence of reason in their brains. For further evidence of this, one need only consider DonkCong Murtha’s views on the war based on his astounding lack to situational awareness (as noted in the previous posting).

Come to think of it, the Flat Earthers make more sense than Murtha’s quasi senile ramblings.

WaPo Slams Murtha Moves

Not the ‘Real Vote’

This is almost a “man bites dog” story when the Washington Post does a negative evaluation of Cong Murtha (Donk-PA) in his legislative dance around the Iraq war.

REP. JOHN MURTHA (D-Pa.) has a message for anyone who spent the week following the House of Representatives’ marathon debate on Iraq: You’ve been distracted by a sideshow. “We have to be careful that people don’t think this is the vote,” the 74-year-old congressman said of the House’s 246-182 decision in favor of a resolution disapproving of President Bush’s troop surge. “The real vote will come on the legislation we’re putting together.” That would be Mr. Murtha’s plan to “stop the surge” and “force a redeployment” of U.S. forces from Iraq while ducking the responsibility that should come with such a radical step.

So much for the set-up.

Mr. Murtha has a different idea. He would stop the surge by crudely hamstringing the ability of military commanders to deploy troops….His aim, he made clear, is not to improve readiness but to “stop the surge.” So why not straightforwardly strip the money out of the appropriations bill — an action Congress is clearly empowered to take — rather than try to micromanage the Army in a way that may be unconstitutional? Because, Mr. Murtha said, it will deflect accusations that he is trying to do what he is trying to do. “What we are saying will be very hard to find fault with,” he said.

All this comes with demonstrable evidence that Mutha Murtha doesn’t know his posterior waste orifice from the proverbial hole in the ground, apparently a bit much even for the liberal esthetic of the WaPo:

Mr. Murtha’s cynicism is matched by an alarming ignorance about conditions in Iraq. He continues to insist that Iraq “would be more stable with us out of there,” in spite of the consensus of U.S. intelligence agencies that early withdrawal would produce “massive civilian casualties.” He says he wants to force the administration to “bulldoze” the Abu Ghraib prison, even though it was emptied of prisoners and turned over to the Iraqi government last year. He wants to “get our troops out of the Green Zone” because “they are living in Saddam Hussein’s palace”; could he be unaware that the zone’s primary occupants are the Iraqi government and the U.S. Embassy?

Of course their real concern here is that Murtha’s (and Pelosi’s) attitudes will (shudder) harm the position of the Donk party:

It would be nice to believe that Mr. Murtha does not represent the mainstream of the Democratic Party or the thinking of its leadership. Yet when asked about Mr. Murtha’s remarks Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) offered her support. Does Ms. Pelosi really believe that the debate she orchestrated this week was not “the real vote”? If the answer is yes, she is maneuvering her party in a way that can only do it harm.

Let it be so!

ChiCom Acts of (Cyber) War

Chinese Hack Attacks on DoD Networks Coordinated

The Naval Network Warfare Command says that Chinese hackers are relentlessly targeting Defense Department networks with cyber attacks. The ‘volume, proficiency and sophistication’ of the attacks supports the theory that the attacks are government supported. The motives of the attacks emanating from China include technology theft, intelligence gathering, exfiltration, research on DOD operations and the creation of dormant presences in DOD network for future action. Onlookers warn that current US defenses against these attacks are ‘dysfunctional’, and that more aggressive measures should be taken to ensure government network safety.

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck…you know the rest.

Copperheads Pass Protest Resolution

House OKs Measure Opposing Troop Surge

The Democratic-controlled House issued a symbolic rejection of President Bush’s decision to deploy more troops to Iraq on Friday, opening an epic confrontation between Congress and commander in chief over an unpopular war that has taken the lives of more than 3,100 U.S. troops.

DEFEATISTCOMM1.jpg

The Donk-RINO Copperhead coalition is in charge…if they could figure out a way to totally cut and run…that’s what they would be doing.

Can you say “…aid and comfort to the enemy.”? This is it!

Queen Ann Sounds Off on Obama Sounding Off

JONATHAN LIVINGSTON OBAMA

Ann Coulter has a lot to say about not much – the “not much” being the meaningful content of the Senatorial personage B. Hussein Obama’s declaration of official Presidential candidacy. The kernal of her invective has aptly been stated in the piece:

This guy’s like the ANWR of trite political aphorisms. There’s no telling exactly how many he’s sitting on, but it could be in the billions.

The Chief is moved to paraphrase Mark Twain’s evaluation of the music of Richard Wagner: “Don’t worry. It’s not really as bad as it sounds.”

Will to Live Asserts Itself in Israel

Israel ready ‘to confront Iran alone’

The old expression about nothing serving to focus one’s mind so much as the prospect of being hanged comes to mind with this.

Israel alone will have to confront the perceived nuclear threat from arch enemy Iran, the country’s ultra-rightwing Strategic Affairs Minister Avigdor Lieberman said today.

“We will have to face the Iranians alone, because Israel cannot remain with its arms folded, waiting patiently for Iran to develop non-conventional weapons,” he told public radio when asked about a possible Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear installations.

At least everyone over there hasn’t had their brains anesthetized by political correctness.

Bush Rope-a-doped by NorKs

Korean Nuclear Deal Delays Disarmament

A hard-won disarmament pact that the U.S. and four other nations struck with North Korea on Tuesday requires the communist nation to halt its nuclear programs in exchange for oil while leaving the ultimate abandonment of those weapons projects to a potentially trouble-filled future.

In a sign of potential problems to come, North Korea’s state news agency said the country was receiving 1 million tons of oil for a “temporary suspension” of its nuclear facilities – and failed to mention the full disarmament for which the agreement calls.

Good grief! The President has taken on the role of Charlie Brown trying to kick the football that keeps getting snatched back at the last moment by Lucy.

What form of dementia convinces the President, the State Department Foggy Bottom Boys, or anyone else that the NorKs have ANY credibility for ANYTHING at all?

Salt Lake City Terrorism: Moslem Shoter Kills 5

Police identify gunman as 18-year-old Bosnian

By now you have no doubt heard about the Salt Lake City mall shooting. The politically correct media is telling part of the story, but is falling under the constraints of political correctness.

Police Tuesday identified the gunman accused in Monday night’s Trolley Square shooting as Sulejman Talovic, an 18-year-old Bosnian refugee who lived in Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank said Talovic drove his car to the mall, parked in the west parking terrace and encountered two people who he shot before entering the mall. There, he encountered a female who also was shot right away, then went into a gift shop where there were five people, all of whom the young man shot. Moving through the mall, the gunman tried to shoot others, Burbank said. The chief said he could not say now how many shots were involved in the entire episode.

Burbank praised an unnamed Ogden police officer who took action at the mall to intervene in the incident, and praised the many law enforcement and other agencies that responded quickly and professionally to the crisis. Until Salt Lake police arrived, it was “basically a shoot-out between the Ogden individual and this individual,” Burbank said.

“As you can see, this individual was well-prepared,” Burbank said, apparently referring to the young man’s backpack filled with ammunition “He had one purpose.” Six individuals died and four others were hospitalized.

SO what’s missing. Oh. Yeah…the perp was a Bosnian MOSLEM. Of course no one is willing to use the T-word: terrorism.

Hey! The Chief subscribes to the philosophy that if something walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then hey, it must be a duck! In this case, as far as the Chief can tell there is no requirement for terrorist acts to be the result of a grand conspiratorial movement. It’s all in the effect, and actions.

The MSM and apparently most government officials are afraid to call an ugly spade an ugly spade. Until we are at least willing to openly identify the enemy, what chance is there that we will meet with success in the “long war” against militant Islamofascism. This next item illustrates and confirms the problem we have with this:

Chertoff’s ‘Islam PC’ rankles fed officials

Citing recent internal memos, Department of Homeland Security employees complain their boss Michael Chertoff is hamstringing counter-terror operations with pro-Islamic political correctness. They say headquarters has cautioned officials not to describe Islamic terrorism as Islamic and to respect Islam as a “religion of peace.”

’nuff said. F.E.T.E.

Iranian Guns Pot-shotting US Troops

Iraqi insurgents using Austrian rifles from Iran

Yesterday the Chief noted that Iran has been engaged in a series of actions that constitute de facto acts of warfare against the United States. This is another instance of their belligerence:

Austrian sniper rifles that were exported to Iran have been discovered in the hands of Iraqi terrorists, The Daily Telegraph has learned. More than 100 of the.50 calibre weapons, capable of penetrating body armour, have been discovered by American troops during raids.

Within 45 days of the first HS50 Steyr Mannlicher rifles arriving in Iran, an American officer in an armoured vehicle was shot dead by an Iraqi insurgent using the weapon. Over the last six months American forces have found small caches of the £10,000 rifles but in the last 24 hours a raid in Baghdad brought the total to more than 100, US defence sources reported.

Steyr50.jpg

Wow! A £10,000 piece! That’s upwards of $15,000 – would be nice to have one of those!

Aussie Sounds Off on US Election

Australian leader: Al-Qaida wants Obama

Australia’s conservative prime minister slammed Barack Obama on Sunday over his opposition to the Iraq war, a day after the first-term U.S. senator announced his intention to run for the White House in 2008.

Why would he say something like this?

Obama said Saturday at his campaign kickoff in Springfield, Ill., that one of the country’s first priorities should be ending the war in Iraq. He has also introduced a bill in the Senate to prevent President Bush from increasing American troop levels in Iraq and to remove U.S. combat forces from the country by March 31, 2008.

What’s not to like about this, if you are al Qaida?

Australian Prime Minister John Howard, a staunch Bush ally who has sent troops to Iraq and faces his own re-election bid later this year, said Obama’s proposals would spell disaster for the Middle East. “I think that will just encourage those who want to completely destabilize and destroy Iraq, and create chaos and a victory for the terrorists to hang on and hope for an Obama victory,” Howard said on Nine Network television. “If I were running al-Qaida in Iraq, I would put a circle around March 2008 and be praying as many times as possible for a victory, not only for Obama but also for the Democrats.”

Calling a spade a spade!

Remember the Maine?

Deadliest Bomb in Iraq Is Made by Iran, U.S. Says

The most lethal weapon directed against American troops in Iraq is an explosive-packed cylinder that United States intelligence asserts is being supplied by Iran. The assertion of an Iranian role in supplying the device to Shiite militias reflects broad agreement among American intelligence agencies, although officials acknowledge that the picture is not entirely complete.

Remember the Maine? The US went to war and brought down the Spanish Empire on a lot less than this, and now that the truth is known, it looks like an internal engineering explosion that sunk the US warship.

Meanwhile, we continue to pussy-foot around with Iran, who has demonstrably been engaging in repeated acts of war against the United States.

Aid and Comfort to the Enemy

This classic phrase is the kernel of the Constitutional definition for treason…in one of these reports, that definition is fully applicable in the Chief’s humble opinion. (During the Civil War, this sort of thing was done by the northern sympathizers of the Confederacy who were known as “Copperheads” – named for the common (poisonous) snake.

War resolution seen hurting morale

Senate Republicans yesterday contradicted top Pentagon officials who say Congress would not injure troop morale by passing a nonbinding resolution critical of President Bush’s Iraq war plan. Sen. Lindsey Graham said he was outraged that Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Peter Pace and Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates would say U.S. combat forces “understand” politics back home and won’t be disheartened by a symbolic no-confidence vote against the commander in chief.

“It shows a lack of sophistication about how this would play in newspaper headlines throughout the world,” said Mr. Graham, South Carolina Republican. “The war on terror is about headlines,” he told The Washington Times. “The last thing we need to do is give [terrorists] a headline by our political action that would embolden them, and by contrast would be hurtful to our men and women in the theater trying to execute the new strategy.”

You know it’s bad for Graham to get exercised like that…as often as not he’s been playing the RINO game on a lot of issues lately.

This other case is from similar noises being generated by the indigestion of Euro leaders fulminating against the US efforts:

Anti-Americanism in Europe ‘helps al-Qa’eda’

DUH! Like this takes a rocket scientist to figure out – oh wait – we ARE dealing with the Euros here…never mind…all bets are off, but the Aussie Foreign Minister tries anyway to talk some sense to them.

Anti-American feeling in Europe is playing into the hands of al-Qa’eda and unwittingly encouraging terrorism, Australia’s foreign minister said today.

Mr Downer gave warning that criticism of America’s conduct in Iraq could – inadvertently – provide an incentive for terrorist attacks. “People in the West, and not only in Europe, blame America for a suicide bomber in a market in Baghdad,” he said.

Nice Try Mr. Downer…but the Chief fears the effort to be Quixotic at best.

Open Border leads to Worm Attacks

Parasitic infection plagues states along Mexico border

Just what we need – another open border problem:

Federal researchers say neurocysticercosis, a brain infection caused by a pork tapeworm, is a “growing public health problem in the United States,” especially in states bordering Mexico, where the disease is endemic.

Neurocysticercosis is the “most common parasitic disease of the central nervous system,” according to a study jointly conducted by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and California public health officials, who reported that “international travel and immigration are bringing the disorder to areas where it is not endemic,” such as this country.

This is some nasty stuff. If one eats larvae containing pork, an intestinal infestation of the tapeworm occurs. If the tapeworm eggs are consumed, as the result of fecal contamination of food for instance, THEN the organism encysts in soft tissues – like nerve tissues – like the brain. Unsurprisingly, 1-2 cm cysts in the brain (like large holes in swiss cheese!) does NOT do good things to nervous system functionality. See this link for some hard-core medical info on the medical situations that result.

Also…not only along the border:

“Most patients [187, or 85 percent] were foreign-born, and 137 [62 percent] had emigrated from Mexico….Although neurocysticercosis is “especially” a problem in the Southwest, it has also surfaced in other places, such as New York, Philadelphia and Charlotte, N.C., data from other studies show.

Presidential Accountability?!

GOP Lawmaker Warns of Impeachment in Border Agent Case

The fecklessness on the border has gotten so bad that it beggars the imagination to try to claim that it’s just due to some sort of governmental/bureaucratic inefficiency. IMHO, it has reached, yea surpassed the point where any benefit of the doubt is warranted. The only warrants left are the ones being referred to by Congressmant Rohrabacher in this piece:

Weeks after accusing President Bush of “shameful” behavior over the imprisonment of two Border Patrol agents who shot an unarmed suspected drug smuggler along the U.S.-Mexico border, a federal lawmaker turned up the heat further Wednesday, suggesting the president should be impeached if the two men are killed in prison.

Speaking after the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that agent Ignacio Ramos was assaulted by inmates in his Mississippi prison at the weekend, California Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher had a warning for the White House. “I tell you, Mr. President, if these men — especially after this assault — are murdered in prison, or if one of them lose their lives, there’s going to be some sort of impeachment talk in Capitol Hill,” he said during a press conference in Washington, D.C.

“The president of the United States talks a lot about his Christian charity, and his religious beliefs,” Rohrabacher said. “He now is showing a mean-spirited side to him, an arrogance, in which he will turn his back, even after one of these officers in prison has been brutally assaulted.”

Meanwhile, there are reports out there that prosecutorial and judicial inquisition that has taken place here is nearly as egregious as that of NC prosecutor Nifong’s legal shennanigans in the Duke “rape” case.

How to account for the Presidential deafness on this one? Who can say for sure, but here’s ONE possible scenario:

For what it’s worth –

An Engineered Solution?

Received via e-mail:

Engineers always seem to know what to do!

Three guys — a Canadian farmer, Osama bin Laden, and an American engineer are working together one day. They come across a lantern and a Genie pops out of it. “I will give each of you one wish, which is three wishes total,” says the Genie.

The Canadian says, “I am a farmer, my dad was a farmer, and my son will also farm. I want the land to be forever fertile in Canada.” Pooooof! With the blink of the Genie’s eye, the land in Canada is forever made fertile for farming.

Osama bin Ladin is amazed, so he says, “I want a wall around Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran so that no infidels, Jews or Americans can come into our precious lands.” Pooooof! Again, with the blink of the Genie’s eye, there is a huge wall around those countries.

The American engineer says, “I am very curious. Please tell me more about this wall.” The Genie explains, “Well, it’s about 5000 feet high, 500 feet thick and completely surrounds the countries. Nothing can get in or out — it’s virtually impenetrable.”

The American engineer says, “Fill it with water.”

This would work for the Chief!

States Not Rolling Over for Feds on National ID

National driver’s license hits a bump

A revolt against a national driver’s license, begun in Maine last month, is quickly spreading to other states.

The Maine Legislature on Jan. 26 overwhelmingly passed a resolution objecting to the Real ID Act of 2005. The federal law sets a national standard for driver’s licenses and requires states to link their record-keeping systems to national databases. Within a week of Maine’s action, lawmakers in Georgia, Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, Vermont and Washington state also balked at Real ID. They are expected soon to pass laws or adopt resolutions declining to participate in the federal identification network.

The Chief is encouraged by this. Maybe real Federalism isn’t totally extinct yet – you think? Hopefully so.

A New Sensation in the Senate!

Senate GOP blocks Iraq resolution

Senate Republicans yesterday blocked a resolution that would have condemned President Bush’s plan to send an additional 21,500 troops to Iraq. On a 49-47 vote that largely followed partisan lines, Democrats fell 11 “ayes” short of the 60 needed to bring about a vote on the resolution, which is nonbinding but is widely viewed as a declaration of no confidence in the continued mission of the Iraq war and Mr. Bush’s handling of it.

Many of the GOP Senators are no doubt adjusting to the strange new sensation of the sudden and previously un-noticed presence of a solid protective set of bones around their spinal columns.

Of course, that didn’t mean that the old RINO tendencies were entirely absent:

Among those who voted against last night’s motion was Sen. John W. Warner of Virginia, who wrote the resolution but joined other Republicans in opposition to holding a vote because the new Democratic majority is not allowing votes on other war resolutions.

Oh well.

Best Defense is a Good Offense!

Conservatives need to stop playing defense

Sibby has hit it out of the park on this one. The lack of either intestinal fortitude, or any detectable spinal bone structure in much of what passes as “Republicanism” these days is such a sad turnabout from the unashamed and assertive stance of Ronaldus Magnus and his 1980’s Republican renaissance.

He extensively cites Farah from WND, and adds his own pithy comment on the sad state of current Conservatism.

The great question is what to do about it – how to organize this?

In a related development, radio talker Michael Savage has noted that he is “mulling” a presidential bid, presumably as a stimulus to some serious consideration in the GOP of an aggressive nationalistic Republicanism in contrast to the crop of RINO candidates (Giuliani, McCain, etc). This can be interesting, since Savage is indubitably an attack-dog Conservative. He would be GREAT fun to see at a candidates’ “debate” forum.

The Conservative side of the GOP could do worse than take biblical counsel: (I Corinthians 14)

8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
